Youth PHP Drug Rehabilitation Programs Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PHP program?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a form of intensive outpatient treatment designed for adolescents struggling with drug addiction and mental health challenges.

It provides a structured program of therapy and support, which includes individual counseling, group therapy, family involvement, and educational workshops, without requiring the teen to stay overnight. PHP is 6 hours per day, five days per week, and the highest level of outpatient care before the teen or adolescent needs to be sent to inpatient treatment.

Youth PHP is specifically tailored for teenagers and adolescents who are battling substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. It’s best suited for those who require more support than traditional outpatient treatment offers but do not need the round-the-clock supervision of inpatient care.

We have programs for ages 5-18 but typically see ages 12 and up.

Our PHP is designed to blend into a teenager’s daily routine, allowing them to receive comprehensive care and support while still being able to live at home and, in some cases, continue their education. The program usually operates during weekdays for a set number of hours, providing the flexibility needed to maintain daily responsibilities.

What is the difference between PHP Programs and IOP Programs?

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) are the most intensive outpatient treatment programs for addiction and alcohol use disorder. PHP includes all the traditional treatment with sessions being 3 hours long, twice per day, and five days per week.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are a step down in intensity with sessions being 3 hours, once per day, and 3-5 days per week depending on our client’s individual needs.

We offer a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, group therapy, and family counseling. We also offer specialized sessions focusing on life skills, such as stress management, communication, and problem-solving.

Family involvement is crucial for the success of the teen’s recovery process. We offer regular family therapy sessions, educational workshops, and scheduled meetings to ensure that families are equipped to provide a stable and supportive home environment.

The duration of the Youth PHP can vary based on the individual’s needs and progress. Typically, programs can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months, but the most intensive part of the program (PHP) typically is only for the first several weeks.

Our team continuously evaluates each participant’s development to ensure they transition through the phases of recovery at a pace that suits them best.
